Many Different Wines Many Different Styles | Hittrafficer.com

by Sharon Thorley

Wine labels tell a story about the wine, the vineyard and the history behind them. Therefore each type of wine will have a slightly different label, other than the wine name, giving the vineyard a personalized wine bottle label.

The labeling on wine bottles can provide rich insights into the history of the wine, its origin, and the people who created it. Thus it goes well beyond a mundane listing of descriptive statistics such year or alcohol content. Labeling on wines are, in a sense, “personalized” with artwork specific to a particular vintage or type of vine.

Classic labels for wine might have a picture of the vineyard used when it first started creating the wine. The picture may include just the vineyard or its warehouses or barrels or the owner’s home. The label may have also been commissioned by the creator to be designed by artists or painters.

Many types of wine labels exist, some small, some large, some going all around the bottle as a band, and others covering most of the bottle. It depends entirely on where the wine comes from, what type it is, the age of its vintage, and the age of its vineyard and customized preferences of the vineyard owners.

Many things should be considered when studying customized wine bottle labels. The first factor is size. Older vintages will tend to have smaller labels that do not cover the whole bottle, because older vineyards do not tend to vary from more traditional styles; however, it does not mean that they never change the size of their labels.

After you’ve looked at the size of the label, look at the type of designs on the labels. This will indicate how progressive or how new the vineyard is. In most cases, modern art will be a sign of a newer vineyard. Also, if the labels change every single vintage for each individual wine, then it is likely a new vintage.

Older art that is more traditional is more likely to be found on older vineyards or vintages that are more traditional. If you are looking at wine bottle labels you may realize that all wine bottles are personalized based on the vintage and based on the vineyard that produces the wine. They may also change based on the type of wine.

For anyone considering expanding their knowledge about wine, the wine label is an excellent and ready source of information on both the vineyard and the particular vintage. Labels vary widely according to not only the type of wine but also according to the vintage and the vineyard.
