We have mass production to thank for making the products we need available to use when we need them and generally where we need them. Mass production also makes many of those same products affordable. But mass production simply cannot match the quality you get when you buy things that are handmade. And quality is one reason antiques are getting more popular.
This definitely applies to antique picture frames. These frames will show off your favorite pictures or artwork in a way that a store bought frame simply cannot. They will not only protect those cherished possessions, but draw attention to them.
Sure a standard store bought frame can still make your pictures look great. But put that same photo in an antique frame and you can almost feel the difference. Don’t try to explain it because you probably can’t. But you will notice it just the same.
Do you have a picture of your great grandfather displayed somewhere in your home? How much meaning would that picture have if it was displayed in a frame that he once owned, or maybe even one he made?
Perhaps that frame is not available to you. No problem. Try displaying it in a frame made around the same time the picture was taken. Now you don’t just have a picture with a border around it, you have something more. The picture and frame will look like they belong together, and they do. People will notice. You’re guests will comment. Everybody’s eyes will be drawn to it.
And with an antique frame there’s very little reason to worry about quality. I’m not some old timer who thinks everything made in my day was better than it is today. But I do think that when you buy an antique, you’re getting something that you know was handmade with pride and quality. That’s still available today, just not as often.
Almost every antique frame was surely handcrafted. That means the maker probably went to great lengths to make sure his product was fabulous. You’ll notice it if you look closely at the detailing. We know you can still find this today, but quality is just one of many reasons why antique are generally better. We’ve already touched on some of the others.
At this point you’re probably thinking that all sounds great, but you simply can’t afford a true antique. And it’s true that these frames can be costly. Go to your local antique store or local consignment shop and when you check the price tags, you just may end up gasping for air. And it doesn’t matter if the frame is gold, silver or wood; you’re probably still going to feel a bit of sticker shock.
Many people will now do one of two things. They will either give up and go to their local discount store, or they fork over their money thinking they have no other choice. But there is another and better choice. You should be patient and look around. Check local consignment stores and look online. If you take your time, you will eventually end up with the frame you are looking for at a price you can afford.
And when that happens, go ahead and buy it. Bring it home or have it shipped to you. Then display that favorite photograph and right away you’ll see the difference.
You won’t be the only one. Friends, family members and guests will soon be commenting on the picture and frame as well.
