Buying a car is one of the first major purchases any of us ever make. Most of us have fond memories of our “first car.” I even know a guy who uses the make and model of the car he owned as a way of creating a mental time line of his life; that’s how important it is to him. So why is it that so many consumers end up feeling uncomfortable at the dealership? At San Tan Honda Superstore of Chandler we want to sell cars. But we don’t only want to sell cars. We want to sell cars and have our new drivers heading home happy with their purchase and confident that they got a good deal.
Other dealerships don’t care about the “happy” so much as the sale and quick departure of car buyers. When you decide to drop by a new car dealership make sure the very first thing you do is to check out the dealership and make sure it’s a good option!
As a favor to consumers who may someday want to buy a Honda while they’re in Chandler, Arizona…we’re willing to guide you in the right direction with a list of 5 things you should make sure your dealership offers you:
1. Everyone likes nice people and nice salesmen are not only a possibility, but something you should insist upon. Don’t accept being treated like a piece of meat dropped amongst vultures. Salesmen that seem to attack before you’ve even had time to get out of your vehicle and head to the front door of the dealership are not fun to work with; find a dealership that has trained their salespeople to observe the niceties.
2. Make sure they have an Internet division. You’re online researching right now so already know the importance and the power of knowledge prior to a purchase. Many car dealerships have full Internet departments to cater to today’s online market. Take advantage of it! Access the Internet specials and expect the Internet specials to be honored at your chosen dealership!
3. Good dealerships will have salesmen that guide you through your purchase; not drag you kicking and screaming. If you find your salesman bossing you around or insisting you “wait” or “follow him”, etc. you can rest assured they’re practicing. They’re leading up to the final act of “bossing” you into a car purchase that might not be right for you!
4. Look for a dealership whose salesmen are very knowledgeable, but not ridiculously opinionated. This is your new car; not the salesman’s. So it doesn’t really matter how many times he’s been tempted to buy the loaded, high end model in the showroom. If you feel like looking at it; go ahead. But don’t feel obligated to accommodate the suggestions of a salesman who continuously suggests vehicles that are not what you came in to buy.
5. And what about honesty? If a dealership is honest you’ll never look back on your “monumental” car purchase with bitterness. Choosing an honest dealership means you will have a clear knowledge of your interest rate and payment information. Choosing an honest dealership means you will actually have the opportunity to take advantage of advertised specials. (If you are immediately told that the “advertised special” is already sold or is temporarily out of stock. Say thank you and walk away to find a dealership that actually honors their own advertising!)
If you make sure your dealer of choice meets the above 5 requirements you’ll have a lot less to worry about. Remember that just because buying a vehicle is ultra convenient and seemingly easy doesn’t mean it shouldn’t be weighty decision. Start your next car ownership experience off by being happy with your purchase transaction. Being happy with your vehicle is one thing, but the best thing is being happy with your entire car buying experience from arriving on the lot to driving your new car for years to come!
