The Celtic people had a rich and very deep culture that was closely connected with the earth, nature and the world around them. Thus has lead to many beautiful myths, legends and great lore that people fall in love with even today. They ascribed meaning and stories to everything in nature and this symbolism has carried through to the world of tattoos. Today Celtic butterfly tattoo designs are very popular for women and even some men.

One of the stories that has for sure inspired some of the popularity of butterfly tattoo designs from the Celtic people is this wonderful story about a beautiful young princess named Etain. She was so beautiful she caught the eye of the High King. He feel in love with her at first sight and tried to do everything he could to impress her. Thus lead the High Queen to become jealous and cast a spell on Etain turning her into a butterfly. She lived the next few years as a butterfly. Then by luck one day she fell into the wine bottle of another queen. This queen drank the wine and the butterfly. Then she gave birth to a baby girl (Etain) who grew up and was finally able to marry the high king.

The Celtic people had a belief system or religion that was totally based on nature. Today religious scholars call that a naturalistic religion. Therefore everything in nature had a complex set of beliefs. For example the butterfly was believed to be a symbol of transformation and renewal. In fact it was pretty common that the Celtic people believed that is a butterfly was accidentally ingested by a female either swallowed in drink or eaten in food then the butterfly would transform and be born a women.

Locations For A Celtic Butterfly Tattoo There are many locations for a butterfly tattoo that work well. One of the most popular of curse is the lower back tattoo. The lower back area offer a large canvas that is often rectangular in shape and a butterfly and Celtic pattern fits well into this space. Other locations for a butterfly tattoo can include the hip, arm and calf.

However, if you can not find what you are looking for this way or want something more unique then you might want to work with a professional tattoo artist to have the design custom drawn. This will cost more money but often it is well worth the extra price.
