They have also heard horror stories about self tanning products and so they are going to avoid them. They want a professional look and not one everyone can recognize as fake.
The days of just offering tanning beds and booths are in the past too if you want to keep customers happy. Many of them are looking for immediate results and you can now give it to them. There are tanning showers that spray a mist that will last for up to ten days. There are people that can apply an airbrush tan to customers that looks very natural.
This is great for those who are worried about skin cancer. Some people have very fair skin and they don’t tan well at all. They may be worried about how pale they look and want to change that. No one wants to go to the pool or the beach and get comments about their white skin blinding others.
Pay attention to the cost of tanning in your salon too. People may have to cut down on their expenses from time to time. You want them to see their tanning as a value and not as something that eats away at their income. The more you advertise the emotional benefits of tanning the more they will find value in it. For example how they feel, how they look, and even how it improves their moods will get the point across.

If the staff doesn’t appear to have a clue then you will lose customers. They can be just as clueless at home with self tanning products. Therefore they will be less likely to buy them. If your staff takes the time thought to discuss the products available that will help each person with their tan based on their skin tone they will be encouraged to buy and use it.
The more you know about the market around you the better prepared you can be. It isn’t just other tanning salons that are your competition. It is also those various self tanning products on the market today. They are very tempting and some of them are getting very good reviews. Therefore you need to continue to work to get people into your tanning salon. Hopefully they will be so impressed by it they won’t think to use anything else.
